When offered a wish by volunteers with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of North Texas, 17-year-old Amanda knew she did not want a trip. She figured a trip would last a day or two and then she'd only be left with pictures. The young music enthusiast had been playing the piano as part of her therapy and decided she wanted her own. Specifically, Amanda wanted a player piano because she could then listen to herself performing her masterpieces.

The wish granters took Amanda to a piano store and let her spend hours playing the various models. Finally, she found her instrument. It was a beautiful Petroff piano that made Amanda's eyes light up as she played it. The match was made.

The grand player piano was scheduled for delivery, but Amanda's parents wanted it to be a surprise. They tried to hide the upcoming delivery, but every day, Amanda kept asking whether the store had called and what was causing the delay. Finally, her parents caved in and gave her the details. None of the excitement was lost, however, as Amanda was overcome with emotion when her piano arrived at her home.

To show off her new piano, the wish granters suggested Amanda have a dress-up recital and reception. The young musician obliged and she invited friends and family to join her during the special evening. While the guests dined on the offerings of a gourmet buffet, Amanda serenaded them with songs that included "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Memory."

Inspired Thoughts

  • I am truly touched by this story. Music is an important addition to any teen's life. I am a 15-year-old junior and I play the piano. I'm glad to hear that this foundation cares so much about other people’s wishes. Bless you and all the brave children out there.

  • Amanda....I am so happy for you. The rhapsodies you make must be beautiful, but the one you have in your heart is even more so. I'm fifteen years old, and I hardly ever read such heart warming tales such as your own. God bless.
