Make-A-Wish® Idaho Celebrates World Wish Day by Granting Elijah’s Wish for a Skateboard-Themed Shopping Spree

Boise, ID: Make-A-Wish Idaho® will celebrate World Wish Day, April 29, the national day honoring the anniversary of the first wish, by granting ten-year-old Elijah’s wish for a skateboard-themed shopping spree.

Elijah has been described as a positive, compassionate, and creative kid who can see the beauty in any situation. His upbeat spirit helped him through his battle with lung cancer. Surgeons had to remove Elijah’s diseased lung to ensure his survival. Although Elijah requires one more minor surgery, his overall prognosis is good.

For his wish, Elijah requested a skateboard-themed shopping spree, specifically asking for trick boards, skateboard-related gear, and skateboarding lessons. He has been skating for two years and is very dedicated to learning the sport.

“We’re excited to be granting Elijah’s wish on World Wish Day. Every year, the entirety of the Make-A-Wish Foundation comes together to make this day special, and Elijah is a special kid who has fought quite a battle, and we’re proud that we get to make his heartfelt wish come true,” said Development Director Helene Peterson

World Wish Day is the annual celebration of the first wish which was granted on April 29, 1980, when the Department of Public Safety officers and members of the community in Phoenix, Arizona, came together to grant the wish of Chris Greicius, a seven-year-old boy battling leukemia who wished to be a police officer.  People can donate to Make-A-Wish Idaho’s World Wish Day 2022 fundraiser at https://wish.org/idaho/world-wish-day-2022-0
