Make-A-Wish® Idaho Receives Grant from the Idaho Community Foundation
Make-A-Wish® Idaho Receives Grant from the Idaho Community Foundation for $2,500 to Help Grant Wishes Like Dominic’s. Make-A-Wish® Idaho is pleased to announce it has received a $2,500 grant from the Southwest Forever Idaho Grant Program in the Idaho Community Foundation. These funds will go to support life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses like Dominic’s.
Dominic is a thirteen-year-old from the Treasure Valley with a brain tumor diagnosis whose wish to go to Hawaii was granted earlier this year. Dominic is the kind of kid who knew exactly what he wanted from a wish. His first choice for a wish was a trip to Hawaii, and his second choice was a trip to Hawaii, but to a different island. “I just love Hawaii,” he wrote. Make-A-Wish Idaho sent him to Oahu, his first choice. During his trip, Dominic visited the Polynesian Cultural Center, took a sunset voyage on a 140-foot tech vessel, and enjoyed a snorkeling and scuba-diving tour.
The recent grant from the Idaho Community Foundation will help to ensure that Idaho kids with critical illnesses like Dominic will be able to enjoy their one true wish. This year, Make-A-Wish Idaho is aiming to grant 150 wishes, more wishes that the organization has ever granted in a single fiscal year. It is because of donations from the citizens of Idaho, corporate sponsorships, and grants like the Southwest Forever Idaho Grant that these wishes come true.
“Wishes can be a strong buffer against the traumatic stress caused by a critical illness. They bring families closer together and instill hope during an uncertain time. This grant goes a long way in helping us ensure that we can provide hopeful and meaningful wishes to kids facing a tough diagnosis,” said Janie Best, Make-A-Wish Idaho President and CEO.
