Annual Tug-of-War Event Teams & Guests Raising Funds To Create Life-Changing Wishes For Children With Critical Illnesses
Manasquan & Point Pleasant Beach, NJ – The Manasquan Inlet Intracoastal Tug, presented by Jersey Mike’s Subs, is back! After a year away, this one-of-a-kind event returns for a third time on Saturday, October 9th.
Highlighted by a series of tugs-of-war using a pair of 600-foot ropes linked at the center of the 450-foot-wide Manasquan Inlet, the Intracoastal Tug serves as a fundraiser for both the Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach Recreation Departments, and this year will also be raising vital funds for Make-A-Wish New Jersey, whose mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Team Registration fees support the respective recreation departments. All registered teams and participants have also set out on their own fundraising efforts (and in healthy competition!), in support of Make-A-Wish New Jersey. Teams and participants will, together, help create hope for children when hope is needed most.
The heats throughout the Intracoastal Tug will feature Manasquan/Monmouth County against Point Pleasant Beach/Ocean County with the Mayor’s Trophy presented to the winner. Previous heats pitted Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach First Responders, local businesses, workout facilities, lifeguards, high school athletes and more.
“We all really missed this event last year,” said committee chairman Geoff Brown. “Our first two years were really overwhelming successes, raising nearly $50,000 between the two recreation departments. It’s a special event and this year we have additional opportunities for public participation. We can’t wait to roll out the ropes!”
“How excited and grateful we are to be a part of this fun and unique event right here at the Jersey Shore,” shared Tom Weatherall, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish New Jersey. “We serve wish kids and families from every municipality throughout the Garden State, including right here in Manasquan, Point Pleasant Beach, and the surrounding towns in Monmouth and Ocean Counties taking part in the 2021 Intracoastal Tug. Life-changing wishes are being granted every day, and it’s thanks to the support of great friends in the community like Geoff Brown, his Intracoastal Tug committee and the competing teams. Thank you for helping us continue to bring our mission to life for these courageous children!”
The day’s festivities – which are free and open to the public – begin at 11:00AM with two concurrent festivals, one on each side of the Inlet, that run throughout the day. Each festival will include live music, craft vendors, food vendors, and additional fun.
Those interested in being a craft or food vendor on either side should email [email protected].
The event has a rain date of October 10th.
