As Las Vegas struggled to understand in the days that followed the 1 October shooting, 15-year-old Riley Carty was inspired by what he saw: the selfless efforts of Las Vegas police officers who helped to bring the community together.

With an official police escort, he hopped in a limo and zoomed to the Philadelphia Airport. There, he is flying to Las Vegas to become a police officer for the day.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation came through for a South Jersey teenager. Fifteen-year-old Riley Carty was surprised with a special police escort and honor guard to the airport early Thursday morning as he’s off to Las Vegas to join his favorite police officers.

Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will team up next week to grant an Officer-for-a-Day wish for a New Jersey teen.

Matthew DeFuria will be wearing a special T-shirt that shows he is a Make-A-Wish kid at the nonprofit organization’s annual fundraising Walk & Roll for Wishes on Sunday, Sept. 22 in Jersey City.

A local child's wish was recently granted by Make-A-Wish New Jersey, whose mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. 17-year-old Maya's wish to go to Hawaii was granted this summer, thanks to the 2019 Jersey Mike's Subs "Month of Giving" Campaign, which raised over $458,000 for Make-A-Wish New Jersey in March.

Lucas was diagnosed with leukemia several years ago. After several treatments, bone marrow aspirations and 22 spinal taps with chemo, Lucas got to say "Aloha" to a dream come true: a family trip to Hawaii.
