(April 2, 2025) – Make-A-Wish ® Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana is proud to announce the launch of World Wish Month.

During the month of April, Make-A-Wish celebrates the magic that happens when a wish comes to life and celebrates the countless WishMakers who help make wishes come true. Every wish is a testament to the resilience of our wish kids and the generosity of our community. When a community of WishMakers come together, we can achieve life-changing results, and there’s nothing better than seeing that magic translated through a child’s smile.

World Wish Month started with a single wish on April 29, 1980, when 7-year-old Chris, struggling with leukemia, wanted to be a police officer for a day. Six people answered the call, who rallied the entire community, and granted a wish that lifted Chris up during his darkest days. These original WishMakers were inspired by the impact the wish had on Chris and vowed to do more.

Today, more than a half-million children have received wishes over the past 45 years that have replaced fear with confidence, sadness with joy, and anxiety with hope. The connection, optimism, inspirational generosity, and kindness surrounding each wish have united countless communities.

But the work is far from over. In the next 20 minutes, a child will learn that they have a critical illness. And 20 minutes later, another. As long as children face this devastating reality, they’ll need WishMakers to help give them a piece of their childhood back.

Each April, in honor of the founding wish and the original WishMakers, Make-A-Wish is recruiting the next generation of mountain movers, heart-forward make-it-happeners, donors, volunteers, partners and collaborators.
