En la cultura mexicana es el sueño de toda jovencita celebrar sus 15 años rodeada de su familia y amigos. Yaretzy no es diferente. Cuando se trataba de qué deseo quería, ella sabía que su deseo sería celebrar su día especial a lo grande y eligió que Make a Wis patrocinara su Quinceañera. El evento fue una experiencia que le cambió la vida para celebrar su nuevo giro en la vida después de sus tratamientos médicos, pero para celebrar la transición de niña a mujer joven. El evento tuvo todo lo que ella podía soñar con un hermoso vestido, banda en vivo, photo booth, coreografía de baile, barra de dulces, comida deliciosa y, lo más importante, todos sus seres queridos apoyándola. Deseos como el de Yaretzy son únicos y tienen un impacto sin precios y un recuerdo preciado para siempre.

Yaretzy is a kind and conscientious 15-year-old girl who loves school, dance, and spending time with her family. Her medical journey started when she noticed a pain in her shoulder. After a few days of pain, she went to her doctor and received X-rays. Her scans came back clear, so her physician chalked the pain up to an inflamed muscle from dancing ballet. She went about her life as well as she could. About six months later, a little ball appeared in her shoulder. After a biopsy, Yaretzy learned she had cancer.

The diagnosis was hard for Yaretzy. The first thing that she worried about was missing school. She is very serious about her grades and attendance and didn’t want this difficult experience to hinder her educational goals. Yaretzy was very excited and grateful when she learned that she could receive a wish. “I just remember seeing videos of kids getting wishes, and I had an idea that if it ever came to that I would pick a quinceañera,” she said.

Yaretzy’s wish exceeded all expectations. She said that she loved being able to spend time with her friends and family, take pictures, listen to their favorite music, and have fun with her loved ones. After difficult treatments, the opportunity to finally have fun and connect with friends and family was a welcome change and a light at the end of a tunnel. The whole experience brought her family closer and will be a lasting memory for years to come. 

The process of planning and receiving a wish was incredibly fulfilling for both Yaretzy, her family, and her wish granters. They became incredibly close over a short time period and describe each other as family after the experience. Yvonne and Luis, Yaretzy’s wish granters, felt like seeing the end result of their work and the impact that the wish had on Yaretzy and her family was amazing and fulfilling. “ They put a lot of time and hard work into making this dream come true, on such short notice and I’m really thankful for that,” Yaretzy said.

From her beautiful dress to dancing and smiling all night, Yaretzy enjoyed every minute of her quinceañera. Her family says this experience wouldn’t have been possible without the work and support of her wish granters. Her mom says that it brings her “so much happiness, watching her be happy. Thank you so much for helping us get what she truly wished for and share her health, her joy with her friends and family.”
