Our Mission

Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Together, generous donors, supporters, staff, and volunteers grant wishes to our kids. Since 1984, Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas has granted more than 6,500 wishes to local children across 40 counties across central and south Texas.

Employment

At Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas, we are more than a great place to work — our work is life-changing. We are an inclusive and diverse group of people who, through a mosaic of backgrounds, thought and experiences, are united in purposeful work. We are fueled and guided by our values — values that are represented in the inspired people we work with and the life-changing work we do, every day.

There are no open positions at the time, please come back and check periodically for any open opportunities.

Internships

Looking for an internship? Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas internships are designed for college students seeking to gain hands-on work experience in the nonprofit industry. This is an unpaid internship intended to fulfill academic course credits through most colleges and universities.

Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas has offices in Austin and San Antonio. Our interns have the flexibility to work remotely/from home but will be expected to work in one of our regional office locations at least one day per week. All internships require the individual to be residing in Austin or San Antonio areas throughout the duration of the internship period for in-person activities, such as wish reveals and fundraising events.

Please check back, as internship opportunities will be posted in the spring.

Managing Our Funds

Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas funds our mission through corporate sponsorships, special events, foundation grants, and individual contributions. However, we do not solicit funds by telephone and receive no federal or state funding. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, all contributions are deductible to the extent permitted by law. Our financial statements are audited externally by CliftonLarsonAllen LLP.

We are committed to transparency and ensuring that the majority of our funds go directly toward granting life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses in our community. We are pleased to report that according to the FY 2024 audit results 74% of our funds were spent on wish granting and related program expenses, 16% on fundraising related costs, and only 10% on management and general costs.

Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas is rated as a Four Star Charity on Charity Navigator and earned the Platinum Transparency 2024 rating on GuideStar.
